About the Event

3D printing is a growing billion-dollar industry and has been forecasted to be the third industrial revolution due to its great potential to transform key industries such as the aerospace and defence, building and construction, marine and offshore and healthcare sectors. Participants learnt about 3D Printing, also known as Rapid Prototyping (RP) or Additive Manufacturing (AM), the various 3D Printing techniques, applications, case studies and trends from the world’s most published and most cited researcher in 3D printing, Dr Chua Chee Kai, over a 4-days course conducted at the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing, Nanyang Technological University. The course included a 1-day workshop where participants got to watch and understand 10 3D Printing systems.

About the Organizer

The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) is Singapore’s first 3D printing centre, launched in 2016 by Nanyang Technological University (NTU). It aspires to be a national centre of excellence and to consolidate cutting edge technology and research in the area of 3D printing, and is the region’s largest R&D facility in additive manufacturing. The centre is also equipped to print customised concrete structures for buildings, such as rooms, beams and pillars.

Besides conducting research and developing new technology with industry partners such as ST Engineering, Keppel Offshore & Marine Technology Centre, Sembcorp Design and Construction and Emerson Process Management, SC3DP also spearheads the task of coming up with standards to govern 3D printing activities.

The centre currently has 17 full-time researchers and 85 PhD students, and is led by Professor Chua Chee Kai, one of the world’s leading experts in 3D printing.
