The Nautical Institute Singapore Conference 2024 was held on 21st August, 8.00am – 6.00pm at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Singapore. Themed “Charting a greener world: Dealing with sustainability, emergency preparedness, and seafarer wellbeing”, the conference addressed crew risks associated with renewable energy and autonomous shipping, evaluated the shipping industry’s readiness for green emergencies, and explored challenges with alternative fuels, EV shipments, hazardous cargoes, and liability concerns.
Attendees participated in discussions on salient topics impacting seafarers, including involuntary crew contract extensions, treatment during incidents, seafarers’ rights and welfare, and the importance of ensuring a diverse and skilled future workforce.
