About the Event

In conjunction with the Singapore Maritime Technology Conference (SMTC) 2019, the Singapore Maritime Institute will be organising the SMTC R&D Seminar in partnership with the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Centre of Excellence in Modelling and Simulation for Next Generation Ports (C4NGP). The SMTC R&D Seminar will gather industry professionals, academia, researchers and government representatives to discuss the essential elements of building a strong maritime research and development ecosystem and share the efforts towards supporting the Sea Transport Industrial Transformation Map to enhance the competitiveness of the maritime industry in Singapore.

Themed “Ports of the Future”, the SMTC R&D Seminar will bring together key decision makers from the international/local maritime and research community to share their perspectives on enabling the transformation of the port through digitalisation, research and innovation. Participants comprising senior/mid-management representatives from the industry and academia can expect presentations by distinguished industry and academia leaders and experts.

SMI will also be presenting the Singapore Maritime R&D Roadmap 2030 at this event along with the award presentation of the research projects granted under the 2nd Joint Call by the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and SMI in the presence of the Ambassador of Norway to the Republic of Singapore, Her Excellency Anita Nergaard. The winner of the Low Cost LNG Retrofit (LCLR) Challenge, jointly organised by the Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Maritime Energy and Sustainable Development (MESD) Centre of Excellence, Shell and DNV GL, will also be revealed at the event.

About the Organizer

The Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) is a joint effort by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Economic Development Board (EDB) in partnership with local Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and reflects Singapore’s continued commitment to the maritime and offshore industry. The SMI develops strategies and programmes related to the academic, policy and R&D aspects of the industry, focusing on sectors including port, shipping, maritime services, offshore and marine engineering, subsea and downhole.

The formation of the SMI aims to strengthen Singapore’s research manpower and capabilities as a global maritime knowledge hub to enhance the overall positioning and competitiveness of the industry. The organisation charts maritime and offshore research strategies together with various maritime institutes at local IHLs, and also promotes greater industry-academia R&D collaborations to be undertaken in Singapore.
