The Maritime Singapore Connect (MSC) Office organised its second run of the MSC Maritime Spotlight Campus Series, on 6 and 7 March 2017 at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). This year, the focus was on engineering careers within the maritime industry.
There was a great mix of turnout, with students from various engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer Engineering attending the session to learn more about the diverse range of fulfilling career options in the maritime industry.
Mr Foo Nan Cho, President of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Singapore (SNAMES) and Deputy Director of the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) kicked off both sessions by giving an introduction to engineering careers in the industry. This was then followed by young industry professionals providing insights into their daily lives as engineers in the ports and shipyards. At NTU, students had the pleasure of hearing from Mr Zeng Xianhong from PSA and Mr Liu Yongsheng from Sembcorp Marine. Over at NUS, students could learn from the experiences of Mr Neo Wei Wei from Jurong Port and Ms See Xue Bing from Keppel Singmarine.
The talks were followed by a Q&A panel discussion, and ending the sessions with a networking buffet reception where enthused students engaged the speakers. Through these sessions, it is hoped that students would be equipped with greater knowledge about the exciting maritime industry that awaits them when they enter the workforce.
