The Singapore Maritime Foundation participated in the Posidonia exhibition held from June 7 to 11 2004 in Piraeus, Greece, as part of the Singapore delegation led by the Minister of State (Health and Transport), Dr Balaji Sadasivan. This was the first time that Singapore had presented a pavillion - at the Posidonia exhibition. Ten other companies from Singapore participated in the national pavillion.
The Posidonia programme included a half-day Maritime Policy Forum, which was held at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens on the morning of the Posidonia opening day. The Posidonia exhibition attracted a wide representation from the maritime industry – maritime and port authorities, international maritime organisations, companies from all the maritime sectors (shipowners and managers, shipbuilding/repair, ship registries, marine services/equipment, marine IT, banks, classification societies, maritime legal services, marine insurance, shipping agents, maritime education/training, bunkering, ship brokering, maritime consultancy services) and maritime publications. With the wide range of services at the exhibition, Posidonia also served as a good platform for interaction among maritime industry players.
Besides participating in Posidonia, the SMF representatives also took the opportunity to meet some members of the Greek shipping community to establish contact as well as introduce Singapore and the objectives of the foundation to these overseas counterparts.
