Nor-Shipping 2007
The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) and the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) jointly organised the Singapore Pavilion at the biennial Nor-Shipping 2007 Exhibition, with support from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, led the Singapore delegation.

Nor-Shipping 2007 took place from June 12 to 15 2007. This premier international maritime event attracted well over 20,000 official delegates from more than 20 countries.

Singapore’s own national Pavilion at the even was officially opened by Mrs Lim on June 12. A total of 13 companies from Singapore exhibited their wares at the 275 sq m Pavilion, which was located strategically near the entrance of the first exhibition hall.

Being part of the Singapore Pavilion, our exhibitors enjoyed the benefits of the International Marketing Assistance Programme (IMAP) grant offered by International Enterprise Singapore. Without the grant, some of the smaller companies would not have been able to take part.

The Singapore Pavilion enjoyed a steady stream of visitors throughout the four-day event. During the VIP tour of the exhibition on June 12, His Royal Highness King Harald V of Norway paid a visit and was hosted by Mrs Lim.

Other visitors included Oslo University students, who visited on June 14. Several of these students will be coming to Singapore for internship with Singapore-based Norwegian companies.

In addition to the Pavilion, the SMF also organised the Singapore Nite @ Nor-Shipping cocktail reception held at Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel on June 12. The event was co-hosted by Singapore’s Honorary Consul-General in Norway, Mr Svein Aaser, with Mrs Lim as the Guest of Honour.

The Singapore Night was a roaring success. This glittering affair attracted some 300 senior guests and industry luminaries from Asia and Europe. Our guests were wowed by the Singapore food especially flown in for the event.

The Singapore Night was sponsored by Keppel Offshore and Marine, SembCorp Marine, MPA and DBS Bank, to the tune of $85,000.

In all, Nor-Shipping was a resounding success for the Singapore delegation. Participants said they found the exhibition and the associated events to be a useful platform to market their products and services to the global market. All 13 exhibitors indicated that they would consider taking up space at the Singapore Pavilion at the next Nor-Shipping event.
