Issue Fourteen – Jul 2016
In the blink of an eye we are halfway through 2016. It has been an eventful half year for SMF and Maritime Singapore.

We were delighted to see a great turnout at our events during the Singapore Maritime Week in April, such as the biennial Offshore Marine Forum co-organised with Seatrade, where a lively discussion took place about the current state of the industry, and the outlook for oil services. We also officially launched Sea Asia 2017 to provide an overview of the iconic maritime show that will be held next year from 25 to 27 April, and hosted the NYPE 2015 Seminar as part of a series of roadshows in Asia.

Needless to say, SMF continued with existing efforts to profile Maritime Singapore locally and internationally. In early June, we led seven maritime companies together with the Association of Singapore Marine Industries to fly the Singapore flag high at Posidonia in Greece under the Singapore Pavilion.

At home, we continued our outreach and profiling initiatives to raise awareness of the industry’s opportunities amongst students and the general public. Some of these activities include going into schools to share insights into the maritime industry, and running advertisement campaigns in the cinemas to profile maritime careers. The newly established Maritime Singapore Connect (MSC) Office has also kicked off some of its inaugural activities for the year, working closely with key stakeholders and institutions to brainstorm ways to promote different maritime career pathways to the public.

SMF is also in the midst of processing applications for the MaritimeONE Scholarship Programme in the lead-up to the awards ceremony in August, and we are happy to have the support of the following sponsors this year: “K” Line Pte Ltd, American Bureau of Shipping, BW Maritime Pte Ltd, Fednav Singapore Pte Ltd, Flagship Ventures Pte Ltd, Global Maritime Talent Pte Ltd, IMC Industrial Group, Jurong Port Pte Ltd, Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd, NORDEN Shipping (Singapore) Pte Ltd, NYK Shipmanagement Pte Ltd, PSA Corporation Ltd, Plymouth University, Red Dot Shipping Pte Ltd, Sailors’ Society, Sembcorp Marine Ltd, Singapore Maritime Academy - Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union, Singapore Shipping Association, The Chua Chor Teck Memorial Fund, Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd and SMTC Global (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Thank you for your strong support for SMF’s initiatives, and we look forward to working even more closely with you in the months to come.

With best wishes,

Andreas Sohmen-Pao
